Cycles In Life- For over 30 years as a therapist, I have helped people identify why they develop unhealthy habits and how to break them! You see we all do this. Everybody develops patterns of behavior. Some are good patterns and others are harmful. I teach my clients the models below as a way to identify why we have bad habits and how to stop them! I hope this information can help you on your journey as well. I encourage you to investigate this site. Learn what you can and evolve into a new and better you!

Negative Cycle

What I want you take from this Negative Cycle model is the answer to the question, "Why do I keep doing the same dumb thing over and over?" It is so frustrating isn't it. You know you need to give up a bad habit. You need to quit smoking. You need to eat healthier. You need to learn to control your temper. You make promises to your self and other important people in your life that you will change. Only, in time, you fall back into old habits. This model explains how you do this and gives the beginnings of how to break that unhealthy Cycle.! Go to the Negative Cycle page for a section-by-section breakdown. 

Positive Cycle

There is a whole lot of "managing" going on here! But, it all starts with learning to see stressful events for what they are and developing a healthier response to them. Each step in the Positive Cycle takes you closer and closer to REAL change in your life. You can do this! But, do not kid yourself, change takes time. One of the reasons you have not been as successful as you would like is because you got impatient when change did not come fast enough or you thought temptation was a thing of the past. Cycles of Life

Now that you have the idea of how each Cycle model works, let's look at them together. On the outer part of the circle above is the Positive Cycle. The inner part is the Negative Cycle. The interior section divided in to the four parts is what you are trying to break away from by learning how you perceive life and deal with problems. Remember, you can be doing well on the outside of this Cycle only to slide back into a Negative Cycle if you fail to remain focused and make the right choices. On the other side of that coin is the realization that no matter how badly things are going for you right now, you can turn them around by managing your mind constructively.
